Researchers from the Sarayshyk Museum-Reserve have launched an expedition to the cities of the Golden Horde as part of a grant-funded project by the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the years 2023–2025. The project, No. AP19678171, is titled “The Capital City of Sarayshyk in the Context of the Historical and Cultural Heritage of the Ulus of Jochi (13th–16th centuries).” The expedition covers cities such as Sarayshyk, Altynzhar, Lapas, Selitrennoye, Gulstan, Beldjamen, Ukek, Mokhsha, Azov, Madzhar, and Khazhi Tarkhan. On the first day, the expedition began its journey by paying tribute to the great Kurmangazy in Altynzhar, before moving on. The team includes Astrakhan-based archaeologist Vyacheslav Plakhov. The project is led by Doctor of Historical Sciences and Professor Äbılseıit Muqtar.
