For many years, a major historical site in the Volgograd region was believed by historians to be the location of the city of Sarai-Berke. However, as a result of recent studies, some researchers have begun referring to this city as "Gulistan." An expedition from the Sarayshyk Museum-Reserve visited the presumed site of Gulistan and thoroughly examined the ruins located there. During the investigation, it was clearly established that the clay bricks, jugs, and other artifacts found in Gulistan closely resemble the historical items discovered at the site of Sarayshyk. Currently, no active archaeological excavations are being conducted at this historical site. However, it is evident that the site has been looted by so-called “black archaeologists” (illegal excavators).
