At present, archaeological excavations at the Selitrennoe settlement are ongoing under the leadership of Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor E. Pigarev, with the support of the Institute of Archaeology in Kazan (Republic of Tatarstan, Russia). Previously, the Selitrennoe settlement was known as the old capital of the Golden Horde — Sarai al-Makhrus, but currently, researchers are promoting the version that it was the new capital of the Golden Horde — the city of Sarai al-Jadid. The city covered a large area, and research is being conducted in stages. During this work, important industrial sites were discovered. Last year, the renowned archaeologist, Doctor of Historical Sciences E. Zilivinskaya, carried out excavations here, during which a medieval bathhouse was found on a high cliff. In 2025, E. Pigarev became the head of the excavations and began large-scale archaeological research in this area. In the near future, archaeologists from Sarayshyk plan to take part in this exchange of experience.
