“Repressions in the USSR: Prorva and Astrakhan Camps (1932–1950)”

Today, on May 31, in honor of the Day of Remembrance for Victims of Political Repressions, the State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve "Sarayshyk" held an exhibition titled “Repressions in the USSR: Prorva and Astrakhan Camps (1932–1950)” at the Nariman Ülkenbayuly Cultural Center in the village of Tushchykudyk.  The Prorva corrective labor camp was established on September 5, 1932, on Prorva Island in the Caspian Sea (now within the territory of the Zhylkoi district of Atyrau region) and was closed in February 1950.  The exhibition features historical documents found in the State Archive of the Russian Federation, the Information Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Astrakhan Region of the Russian Federation, the Special State Archive of the Atyrau Regional Police Department, and the State Archive of the Atyrau Region. Also presented is the exhibition “Sarayshyk-Prorva-Burynshyk-Kulsary-Atyrau-Sarayshyk.”
