On July 21, 2019, researchers of the Saraishyq Museum-preserve , together with the Astrakhan archaeologist V.V. Plakhov and topographer P.V. Biryukov, went on an archaeological exploration to identify the location of historical sites referred to in early Russian sources in the Makhambet district. The places near the settlements of Tandai, Akkaiyn and Karabai Lake were studied. The reconciliation of ancient maps with modern satellite imagery has been carried out, also the orientation of the terrain has been changed, ancient structures have been checked.
