Archaeological excavations in 2020

In the period from June to October 2020, The historical and cultural monument of the medieval city of «Saraishyq» conducted research work at the site of the excavation of the «Tomb of Khan» in the ancient part of the cemetery. The site was selected from several sources. Among them, the place «Aulie-crypt», marked on the schematic map of Saraishyq, compiled by the military topographer A. Alekseev in 1861, and the grave of Myrzagaly Karzhauov, father of Atyrau public figure S. Karzhauov.  As a result of excavations at a depth of 1 m a building of ceramic bricks (possibly a mausoleum) was discovered. The bricks of the building are demolished almost completely. Only small pieces of brick remain. During the clearing of the excavation on the inside of the building at a depth of 2 m from the surface of the Earth, a dome of ceramic brick, lined with limestone (ganch) solution was found. It’s still impossible to completely open the mausoleum, get the bones out . Letters to the Ministry and Akimat of Atyrau region were sent to implement a number of measures in the same direction.
