On May 25, within the framework of the IV International Museum Congress held in Astana, renowned scholar of Turkic World and Central Eurasian history, Professor Joo-Yup Lee of the University of Toronto, visited the “Saraishyq ” State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve as a special guest. The Canadian researcher, widely recognized for his innovative scholarly works on the ethnogenesis of the Kazakh people, the formation of the Kazakh Khanate, and the phenomenon of “Kazakhness,” expressed particular interest in learning about the history of the ancient city of Saraishyq during his visit to Kazakhstan. During the visit, the scholar toured the museum exposition and the historical sites of the medieval settlement, and also met with the museum-reserve’s research staff. The meeting, held in a round-table format, developed into an open exchange of opinions and a constructive academic dialogue. The participants discussed issues related to medieval history, the Jochi Ulus, the formation of Kazakh statehood, and the historical significance of Saraishyq. The participants received answers to their questions and shared their scholarly perspectives. In addition, prospects for strengthening future academic cooperation, exchanging experience, and sharing research findings were also discussed.
