A production site designed for fishing and fish processing. The main function of the complex was to carry out processing operations such as salting, drying, and storing fish caught from rivers and lakes. Such facilities played an important role in the economic structure of the people of that time and were one of the main sources of income, especially for communities located near water.
An economic area associated with the fishing industry was discovered, containing large clay vessels buried in the ground. On its southern side, a section of wall made of adobe bricks and the base of a rectangular oven were preserved. It was determined that this location was situated in the southwestern part of a medieval city’s citadel. The area measures approximately 12х13 meters. During archaeological excavations, large clay and stone vessels used for salting fish were found, as well as hooks, items for net weaving, household goods, and coins that had been in circulation.
In 2022, the first excavation of the site was carried out by Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University at the request of the “Atyrau Regional Center for the Study of Historical and Cultural Heritage.” In 2023, the research was continued by the “Bozok” museum-reserve, and in 2024, archaeologists from the “Saraishyq” museum-reserve studied the area. Based on the research results and the discovered artifacts, this production facility was presented to the public as a special exhibition in 2025.
