Three excavations are currently underway at the site of the medieval city of Saraishyq.
1. Excavation No. 2 is carried out by the State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve "Saraishyq". The excavation area is 1000 sq. m. During the work carried out, part of the medieval street was cleared, and the walls of the building were found on the lower cultural layers. The excavation is conducted by archaeologist Aibek Turaruly.
2. Excavation No. 6 is also carried out by the State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve "Saraishyq". The excavation area is 1600 sq. m. (35x45 m), divided into sectors. The size of each sector is 5x5 m., there are 64 sectors in total. Fragments of ceramic vessels, architectural decors, animal bones and numismatic exhibits were found during the excavation. In the southwestern part of the excavation, korkhana –a tomb with a unique architecture was discoverer. Archaeologist Amangeldy Zhumabayev is conducting the excavation.
3. Another excavation is carried out by the Atyrau Regional Museum of Local Lore. Last year, the museum conducted an excavation on an area of 3,000 sq. m. And this year, at the same excavation, in its eastern part, work continues on the lower cultural layers. During the work, residential premises and its interiors were identified: a sufa, an oven, and a kan system. Ceramic and metal products were discovered, as well as numismatic finds. The head of the excavation is archaeologist Mir Abdigaliev.
