Golden Horde jug (XIII-XIV cс.)

Golden Horde jug (XIII-XIV centuries), found in Saraishyq in 1909.

The jug has an excerpt from the poem «Kutadgu Bilig» (Beneficial Knowledge) by Zhusup Balasagun:

«Ihe beauty of a man is the face, the beauty of the face is the eyes;

The beauty of the throat is the tongue, the beauty of the tongue is the word.

Yet the beauty for a man is knowledge and art, A man must sacrifice his soul for knowledge».

An unknown craftsman added the word in his own name: «Inside this jug one may pour tears.»
