Celadon bowl

Celadon bowl. XIV c.

Оne of the high-quality porcelain items produced in China. Celadon is a type of ceramic covered with a translucent greenish glaze, fired using a special high-temperature technique. According to legend, celadon vessels were believed to change color or even crack on their own when they came into contact with liquids containing poison. Because of this property, such vessels were reportedly used by Chinese emperors and high-ranking officials as a means of protection against poisoning. Celadon items were widely used not only in daily life but also in ceremonial rituals and were valued as symbols of status among the Chinese aristocracy.
