A monument was erected near CLC Prorva

On the eve of May 31 - the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Political Repression, organized by the "State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve "Saraishyq" of the Committee of Culture of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a memorial sign was installed on the territory of the Prorvinsky correctional labor camp. Within the framework of the scientific project of the period from 2020 to 2022: "Prorva and Astrakhan camps in the GULAG system: history, memory, science (1932-1950)", which was carried out by the staff of the "Saraishyq" Museum-Reserve, it was found that there was a Prorva labor camp on the territory of the Zhylyoy district of the Atyrau region. The opening ceremony of the memorial sign at the location of the 1st branch of the Prorva labor camp along the highway to the Prorva deposit was attended by Deputy akim of the Zhylyoy district Gulnafis Aishuakova, head of the scientific project, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Ulzhan Akhmetova, project member, graduate student Amangeldi Zhumabayev, archaeologists Aibek Turaruly, Nurbek Zheksenbayev, history teacher Guldana Ertugel, oilmen Kuanysh Galimov, Edil Sydykov, etc. Ulzhan Tulegenkyzy told about studying the history of the camp and noted the importance of installing a memorial plaque. Gulnafis Ayazberikkyzy reported that the public and students of the district are not sufficiently informed about the existence of a large camp in the district, where victims of repression were held, and expressed gratitude for the work of the scientific group that contributed to the study of the history of the region. The creation and installation of the memorial sign was carried out under the auspices of a group of citizens working in the "KoZHaN" joint-stock company. After the opening ceremony, the participants got acquainted with the location of the camp.
